Hi Everybody! Excited new owner! AA-3 inbound get it tomorrow. i’ll preface by saying I have gone through the threads trying to find my answer, but not this specific set up, so here I am. I would like to switch between the four kickass channels on the Marshall. And of course access all the gloriousness of the amplifire. A youtuber had posted a video where I believe he was doing just that, he provided this, Going from memory the signal path was Guitar > Atomic Input > Atomic FX Send > Mesa Input > Mesa FX Loop Send > Atomic FX Return > Atomic Out > Mesa FX Loop Return - hope that helps That of course doesn’t incorporate the MS3, which I could just run into the front end. I have too many loops and inserts to figure out how to 4CM this thing LOL Amplifire loop use one of the loops in the MS3 Marshall serial effects loop The Marshall also has, A power amp insert.? With a preamp send, and a power amp return. All three things have MIDI in and through. I should eventually be able to switch amplifire presets and Marshall channels from the MS3. help! LOL Thanks!
Hello, I hate to be a downer, but I'm not sure that the AF3 is going to add much to the system you want to run. You have an outstanding Marshall amp and the MS3 is an excellent effect processor. In 4CM you can use the MS3 drive and boost pedals in front of your amp plus modulation, echo, etc post the preamp. Not to mention you can add pedals to the MS3 loops. Where the AF3 really shines is in amp modeling and CAB IR loading. But using your Marshall for amp tones, you're bypassing all of that. The AF3 will still be excellent for recording guitar tones instead of putting a mic on your Marshall cab. But perhaps I've misjudged your intent. What features of the AF3 are you hoping to use that you can't get from the Marshall and the MS3? Cheers, Jace
Hi, I’d like to switch between the marshals preamp and the AF 3’s modeling. i.e.- Marshall Orange channel, switch to AF3Vox. I have two Klon clones in the MS3 hitting the front of the Marshall. I could use the third loop insert for 4CM if applicable.
From the Marshall Manual: Hint 3: To use a different preamplifier and combine it with the JVM channels, connect the external preamplifier output to the Programmable Serial loop return and turn the RETURN LEVEL to desired external preamp level. Connect the external preamp input with a splitter to the amplifiers input (it might be necessary to use an active splitter to keep a high impedance and/or an isolated one to avoid ground loops). Switching the effects loop ON and OFF will alternate between the external preamp and the JVM preamp. So you'll need a splitter to send your guitar signal to both the AF3 and the input of the Marshall. But if you're using the FX loop like this, I'm not sure how you would use your MS3 in 4CM. You can assign the foot switches on the AF3 to select presets on both the unit and the Marshall. The AF3 will send a MIDI program change and the Marshall will change channels. You'll want to BYPASS the CAB block on the AF3. As all sounds will be going through the Marshall cabinet, you'll still use a mic on the speaker. You'll want to experiment with turning the POWER AMP MODELING on/off on the global page of the editor. Turning it off will just send the preamp section of the AF3 to your Marshall power amp. Logically, this seems like the thing to do, but try both on/off and just go with what sounds best. This is a GLOBAL setting so it will be on/off for ALL presets.
