    Hello Forum,

I received a CLR on Thursday, and with the AA12, I have been trying to get some decent sounds with this setup.
I may be doing things wrong, but I have tried a lot of things to get my setup to NOT sound so stale and compressed and digital. I really want the CLR to work out!

My current setup is Guitar(s)>AA12> with 4 pedals in the Loop (an EH Soul Food, a Suhr Riot and 2 Eventide H9's), and into the Return of a Line 6 DT50 Head/4x12 Cab. This setup has all the needs of sounds I desire. There is something sweet about having this AA12 in the signal chain, and it does take external pedals well, IMHO. But the DT50 is a heavy beast, hence the purchase of the CLR.

With the CLR, I simplified by starting with a blank patch/clean amp (US Clean) and matched cab, then tried many IR's to see if I can loose that compressed/stale sound. I figured if i can get a clean sound, I could go from there.

I know FRFR is suppose to sound different. I have a EV ELX112p that I have ran thru and to me it sounds better than the CLR. Not louder though, the CLR cranks.
I know sound is subjective, but I was expecting more out of this CLR. Or am I just using this setup wrong with this speaker.

Any suggestions?, or presets that other CLR/AA users have, from the forum would be greatly appreciated, before I may have to send this back.

    BMoe,
The CLR is going to sound VERY different than running in to your DT50 and a 4x12!
Those products are made to ADD color to the sound where as the CLR is made to be neutral.
In your previous rig, I would think that you bypassed the CAB IR and possibly the power amp
emulation. Be sure that those are ON when you use the CLR.
Next, you should back up all of your presets and start fresh on a couple new ones.
Start with just an amp model and a CAB IR. Dial those in with the CLR.
Once you get something you like, try those settings in one of your previous presets and with your other pedals.
    Good luck!

    Hello Jace,
    Thanks for the reply.
I was hoping for a couple of presets to try of users with this setup. (AA with CLR)
I feel I've given it a pretty good shot. maybe it's the type of IR??, although the "Matched" seems the best.
Maybe I have to accept that the CLR is not going to be what I am looking for.

    Again, Thanks for reply.

If you're interested in a clean preset, you might try this one. I'm rumored to have some experience using an Amplifire with a CLR. ;)

This has to be one of the best clean presets I have tried! Jay if you had any presets (AF12) for hi gain stuff (5150 territory) I would certainly appreciate it. I have looked for them, but have not been successful. I will try your Marshall cab at band practice today with an HBE preset of my own. Sounds good on my own, I will let you know how it did with the rest of the band. Cheers!

Hey mate! I have an AF12 and CLR and am generally a gain-high-gain player. I've created a patch which, to my ears, is as monstrous sounding, thumping and juicy yet clear as anything I've had out of any gear. Plays great at low volume and translates when you crank up the CLR. The key I found, with the IR and amp selection I made, was keeping the treble control low - it made all the difference between thin/digital sounding and wonderfully organic. I ended up having the tone control set to less than 1.

Anyway, here's a clip of it while I was noodling the other day, which is my main high-gain patch. I'm at work right now but can post the patch later if you'd like to take it for a whirl.

But believe me, the magic tone between those 2 great boxes is definitely there in spades!!
