What's the Boss A/B switch for?
Depends on the preset but I most always have the top button set to boost for solos (add volume, little gain, increase or add delay etc.) and the bottom button for turning on the wah or to quickly turn on another effect. I don't touch the AF at a gig, just the MS-3, FS-7 dual footswitch and expression pedal.
Here's mine. I'm considering swapping the G-system for an HX effects. I like the simplicity and build quality of the G-system, but do want more verbs and delays sometimes. Plus it would be much smaller and lighter.
Overhauled my compact board today. I have to say, this setup is crazy versatile. Except possibly for djent.
Here's mine. Only play at home through a Laney IRT-X
Made some changes. Very happy with everything.
Just sold my Line6 POD HD500 of 6 years and put together this compact little fella! Sounds so good and fits perfectly at the base of a mic stand!

There's some really cool stuff here guys!
Way to go!
Smallest board I have ever had since my 1988 Boss ME-5. This one sounds light-years better (BTW, sound quality is now measured in distance. Who knew?)
The AF6 and H9 chat via midi. PC's sent to H9 by AF6 through FS 1-3 selecting 6 presets. FS 4: Drive, FS 5: "Boost" via an EQ stage set to "Gain Only", FS 6: FX (preset dependent as to what is turned on and off). Midi clock is sent from Tap Tempo switch on H9 to the AF6. Expression pedal has been modified to also be an input patch bay for instrument cable input. I have the H9 in the loop and it is usually placed after the amp model unless I want the extra harmonics on the delay that you get when a delay is in front of an amp. I use delays and reverbs from both units. Different sounds, both pro quality.
The gigs I do, I rarely need more than 6 preset, especially with drive, boost, and FX switchable. 42 unique sounds. I tend to get basic drive settings from amp model then have 2 other drive/volume levels depending on how Drive and "Boost" are set. Could have the EQ stage boost in from of amp model to drive it or after it to just goose the volume. (As you can see, I like my cables to be secured with a few cables ties! I like keeping stress off of cables and pedal jacks.)
Atomic is the first modeler that hasn't made me miss an amp. Tried analog modeling (Tech 21 Flyrig, Vox AV30/60), tried digital modeling from others(Line 6 Helix, POD, Flextone amps). ALWAYS went back to an amp. Until now. Played with a Kemper for about an hour with custom modded presets. Sounded good, but wasn't better than the AF6. (My opinion.) Both are great.
The AF6 feels like an amp. The expression of my fingers comes through.
Here is probably the best measure for me...I asked my favorite sound man after a gig if I should go back to amps, he said no way, it sounds great. He went on to say that the lead tone I had for a particular song was up their with DAVID GILMORE album tones. Holy Crap! There is no pain I'm now receiving!
Very flexible. Very happy with it.
My little board of joy.
When I first decided to ditch the amp, I still had my Elektron Analog Drive and also my H9 on the board. I soon realised that between these two, I had everything I needed.
I use the HX as my master, using MIDI to change presets on the AA6. The EV5 controls a final volume block on the AA with the Mission attached to the HX. HX Presets are changed from an iPad which calls up the correct patch when I select the song; the HX is normally in snapshot mode which, for me, gives different pedal settings for different parts of a song.
The whole thing is cabled up 4CM meaning I can place HX effects before and after the Amp sections in the AA and still come out of the HX into the Cab section of the AA as the final output into the desk.
I'm having some teething troubles getting consistency across home/studio sounds but these pages and the excellent Atomic support (Thanks Jace!) have provided me with a whole raft of things to try and even things out.
The best part is I think I've only really scratched the surface of what these 2 can do together.
Gotta love the Monkeys preset #39 I'm A Blvr! (Or Smashmouth)
A/B for cable/wireless is ****ing smart, how the **** did I not ever thought about it?
We play it how we feel on the night to be honest - normally part Monkee, Part Smashmouth.
There's a super heavy 5150 sound snuck in as an alternative snapshot if I fancy surprising the rest of the band at some point. Which always goes down very well with them, as you can imagine - it's good to keep everyone on their toes I find
And another update. The last one, of course
Here’s the latest (last?) version. Use the AFB as a clean Deluxe Reverb, drives and fx all from the HX Effects.
