Pardon the IEMs.....
Hi all, above are a couple of photos of my AA3 Rig. Points to note are:
I believe the only way to get that 'amp in the room sound and feel' (or my particular version of it) is to actually have a big tube amp pushing guitar cabs
The amp is a Carvin TS100 (50 watts per channel or 100 watts bridged). It can run either EL34s or 6L6s - I am currently running 6L6s. It is loud (!!), sounds great and is light (relatively!!) for a tube rack. Also sounds very good through the loop of my Egnater Tweaker 88 (big KT88 bottles)
A solid state Harley Benton Stereo Power amp (2 x 200 Watts) is in the rack as a backup
Running in stereo, but mono sounds just as good (but different)
The cabs are loaded with Egnater Elite-50 speakers - a 50 watt version of Celestion G12H-30, built for Egnater
The AA3 is being used only for drive and amp sounds (in 4CM with the Boss GT100)
The GT100 is controlling everything by midi and is providing all effects (the sounds are very good and the unit is a lot more tweakable 'on the fly' than the AA3). Hey Atomic how about an Intelligent Harmoniser for us Thin Lizzie fans?
There are 8 effects switching options at my feet
I have also run this setup in '7CM', going back in through the AA3 stereo return loops (from the GT100 Outputs) to allow use of the AA3 outputs (via IRs) to the house pa feed. I was a bit concerned about the impact of another couple of analogue/digital/analogue conversions. Any perspectives on this would be much appreciated
I thought about pulling the trigger on a GT-1000 this weekend, but I'll wait and see - this rig sounds so good and I get to use the AA3's stellar sounds without the interface and switching limitations. So glad to have jumped off the IR merry-go-round.
Also, I am not fussed about carrying heavy gear - after lifting the pa and the drummer's gear, my stuff is nothing!
Cheers to all
I perform sat on a bar stool so height is important in my pedal board.
I can't post a picture, but here is my signal chain, some of which I barely use. Moon Boost Treble Boost(long discontinued), AMT Guitar Packer - a compressor that wants to be an OD when it grows up. Also discontinued and for me irreplaceable. Toadworks Texas Flood. A tube screamer that seems to push low mids instead of highs resulting in a warmer sound. My AIAB pedal of a Dumble Clean Channel that I use as a fat clean boost. Amplifire-90% of the time on the Bassman or Power Amp models. Earthquaker Tone Job EQ in the loop. Out of the mains into a Cabdryvr Stereo Speaker IR pedal. I can run two different IR's out of this and along with the onboard one gives me three total to mix and match-like some pros do with real cabs. TC Hall of Fame II Reverb. Rocktron Intellifex LTD (for delays mostly). Carvin H400 Headphone Amp. Bowers and Wilkins headphones, all leading to Lots of Fun. BTW, my apartment neighbors don't even know I play guitar with this rig.
I've updated mine by reintegrating my Analog Drive and my H9. The AD is in one HX loop, the AA in another and then back out of the HX in stereo for the AA's Cab sim (via the H9 which I control by MIDI). Super flexible and so easy to set up good tones for my cover band duties.
Just for scale: Is that a PedalTrain Jr?
I've just updated the board to bring back the H9 and Analog drive (see the post just above) and I've moved to a Pedaltrain Classic Pro. The original setup I posted was indeed a Classic Jr.
my pedalboard.. signal chain
crybaby mini > xotic sp comp > one control switcher ( xotic sLdrive > wampler pinnacle dlx > AFB > Tc corona > xotic Epbooster ) > Dunlop x mini > GFI specular tempus. Then i have a mooer micro D.I. underneath the board so that i can split my signal to stage monitor and P.A.. Im using the AFB as a clean to slight break up base tone. Great amp in a box pedal!
My what big footswitches you have! ;-) Where do you get 'em?
The xotic SL Drive kicks ass.
no brand pedal toppers bought it online from china, its cheap.Or try to search barefootbuttons.com ,mooer toppers.
This is my latest iteration (board is a trimmed down Temple Audio Solo 18).
The thing in front of the amplifire is a DIY midi switcher using an arduino nano.
Wow, that’s quite a setup @Clint Martin, thanks for sharing! With a little bit of luck, I’ll be connecting my Powercabs to the AA6 soon.
Simple, but its all I need. The AFB is basically a three channel amp helped out a bit by a couple other things.
The wholey shitski.
My setup, revised onto a HoleyBoard Zig...
Biggest problem: It's too darned tall to fit in a regular case. Turns out, 7" really is huge!
Finally found a selection of drives that work together and also work well into the AFB. Snouse Blackbox2 into Wampler Tumnus into MXR Booster into the AFB Kornfield model set just at the edge of breakup. Sounds killer!
My new setup with the Wampler EQuator as a global EQ. Still room for a looper, and a tuner.
