I have recently got myself an AA6 and I like it.
To the point where I'm thinking of selling my AX8 but I want to be 100% so I'm thinking of getting the best IR's I can find.
I'm looking for a large 80's hair metal sound like:
Van Halen (Early), RATT, Dokken, Winger etc
What CAB IR's would I need for this sound?
And where can I buy them?
I've bought an A/B switch and I want to put the AA6 against my AX8 so I want to give my AA6 the best chance possible.
    Any tip's, I'd really appreciate.

I am extremely happy with the Celestion Redback 412 IR's. Have tried a bunch of others, including IR's in paid presets, but this is the one I always go back to.
But whatever sounds good for you will do.
If you search, you will find several threads about IR recommendations.

Live Ready sound, Celestionplus, and Ownhammer would be my suggestions.
Deosn't really matter, just use the same IR for both modelers.
FYI I have had the AX8, and Helix, and I'm a happy Amplifire 12 user!

Hi Clint, I've bought Ownhammer Heavy Hitters Collection Volume 1 and I'll be testing it tomorrow :)
I love my AX8 but its just got way too many parameters and I want something simpler but with the same sound quality.
As you know they don't make the AX8's anymore and it will see in a flash so I want to be 100% sure before I sell it :)
I need to try and match my current AX8 live sounds :)
    Should be fun! :)

OK, I've tried to replicate the 5150 preset that I use on my AX8 on my AA6. The CAB is the 5150 Matched so not added the OwnHammer cabs yet.

    Here the AX8

    Here's the Atomic Amplifire 6

    And Here's a version with an Own Hammer IR I chose;

    What do you think?

The AA6 with the OwnHammer sounds pretty close to the AX8 with a quick listen on my MacBook speakers.
    What do YOU think?

Thats exactly what I was thinking Jace...I've lately actually got it to sound better that the AX8 original preset.
I just wanted to know if it was only my ears, so I'm happy you said it!!! :)

    Wow, Atomic really rocks!!!

Definitely not a drop off in quality from the AX8 to the Atomic sounds. I prefer both Atomic tones to your original AX8 preset.

    Glad to hear that!
I've actually improved it even further lately :)
I think the AX8 will be in Ebay soon.
The Axe Fx and Ax8 are really good but 90% of the stuff there I will never use so it's just no point, especially when I can get the same tones out of my Atomic Amplifire.
I'm now thinking about adding an Eventide H9...Not sure yet as it's very expensive...although, the Axe Fx is very expensive too :)

Has anyone used the Atomic amp models with the Fractal's effects?

I’ve got both but I’ve never tried that. I would never use both of them together live...it would be one or the other. The AX8 has lots more parameters and sounds...you can almost do anything. I myself prefer something simple like the AA ... if you want super high quality effects with your AA then look into the Eventide H9 and you are done! :)

I was going to buy a H9 until I found out you can only use one effect at a time!

    Well that's not totally true.
For example, the Spacetime algorithm lets you have multiple, for example: Chorus, Delay and Reverb at the same time.

Check out this video from "3:00" you can use 3 or 4 effects at a time

    Hope this helps :)

Nothing wrong with the Atomic effects at all. It just takes some time to learn to use them. Look at them as effect tool boxes instead of models. You can create pretty much anything from them once you get used to how they work.

I agree that the AA effects are OK but what I'm trying to say is that you have a lot more that you can do on the AX8 as far as effects going.
You can have Multiple effects...And I even have a Ray Gun effect which I use for a cover (Rebel Yell).
Now, I would just use the extras 1% of the time :)
    So, what I've done is I've bought a H9 to go with my AA...then I don't need to AX8 :)
